Medieval and Tudor

Sudbury began to expand beyond its Saxon defences in the 12th century with a new parish growing up around All Saints church. The town became extremely prosperous in the 15th and early 16th century, much of this wealth created by the  woollen cloth industry. Many substantial timber-framed houses survive from this period. Unsurprisingly, relatively few artefacts have survived but their quality and interest is high.
